Vehicle tyres are a complex product that are designed to meet demanding standards.
As a consequence several different materials are used in their construction. This makes the recycling of end of life vehicle tyres very demanding. The rubber is a thermoset material and has been combined with thermoplastic textiles and steel. Therefore the challenge is to separate the various components into clean streams of material that can be reused.
Our recycling process
The recycling technology the Crumb Rubber plant uses involves 3 processes:
- multi milling to achieve the particle size required whilst avoiding heat build up
- separation processes to remove fibre, steel and stone
- multiple sieving units to achieve the required particle size distribution
